A prohibited good is one that cannot be imported under any circumstances.
A restricted good may require a license or special permission from the importing authority in order to be allowed into a region.
Restricted goods may also have rules as how to how it can be transported..
Some examples are below:
- Religious material or alcohol based products in Saudi Arabia.
- Lithium-ion batteries may only be transported via cargo plane as opposed to by commercial planes.
- Shoes – or rather pairs of shoes – are completely illegal to import into South Africa, Mexico or India. In an effort to regain control over shoe production.
- Baby walkers have been prohibited in Canada since April 2004.
- Certain breeds of dogs that are deemed to be ‘dangerous’ are prohibited from being imported into Australia.
- The importation of pleasure boats/radio equipment is restricted under Finnish law.
- If a shipment is flagged, can I apply for special licenses or permissions through Hurricane?
Hurricane solely provides the appropriate data flagging whether a good needs a license or permission to ship and the reason why it might be required. For more information on how to acquire permissions or licenses, contact your carrier or postal operator.
